Family Fun!
Do you do things with your family? Well, you probably do. At least, I hope you do. In medieval times, families spent a lot of time with each other after all their work was done. Of course, they didn't have T.V.'s back then. They had to entertain themselves. They had a lot of fun with each other and all their friends. Families got together regularly.
Some common activities medieval families did together were things like singing together. Families also danced with each other. Families ate dinner together or had a big feast with each other. Some would get together with their friends and have jousting tournaments! Families loved to play games with each other. They played different games then we do. They didn't have board games like we do. They also loved to tell/listen to stories.
Work, Work, Work.
Does your mom work during the day? Or does she stay home and do all the housework? What about your dad? Does he go to work everyday? In medieval times, it was normally the men that went to work everyday. But, that doesn't mean that the women couldn't work. Men and women both worked very hard at whatever they did. So do the men and women of today's world.
In medieval times if a woman got married to a craftsman and had a daughter or two with him, then her and her daughter both were employed and forced to work for their husband/dad. If a woman was widowed, she had to provide for her family and for herself of course. So, then she would have to get a job. Widows worked very hard. They would have to stay committed to her job and to her family.

Life As A Medieval Child!
What do you do during the day? You probably go to school, then go home and hang out with friends or family, right? Well, life as a medieval child is way different than that. Do you have a job? Do you work for your family everyday? Probably not. But a medieval child did. They worked all day long. Of course they played a little bit, but most of the time they had to do their share of the family work. You could say that it was their "chores."
A lot of children stayed home and didn’t go to school. Some did, but most didn’t. Girls would stay home and learn how to run the household like their mother. The mothers showed the girls how to cook, clean, and everything else. The boys went with their father to learn the family business. They were supposed to follow in their fathers footsteps. And we thought school was really hard. Just imagine you’re 7 years old and already trying to follow your father or mothers footsteps.
Marvalous Medieval Marriage!
Many people got married without a big ceremony. Pretty much all they did was say "I am yours" and then lived together and everyone in the city considered them to be married. In today's world, weddings are a really big thing. That is the day that most girls can't wait for. Most people got married very young. Some as young as 12 years old! Can you imagine getting married right now? Crazy right? That’s like starting off your 7Th grade or even your 6Th grade year… married. Today, you would normally wait until you're at least 20 years old to get married.
Most marriages only lasted for about a few years because a spouse normally died. So, it was common for people to marry more than one time. The Christian Church did not allow men and women to get a divorce. However, they did allow men and women to separate. Today, unfortunately, divorce and separation are pretty common.

The Super Hero of the Family!
Medieval women were like the super heroes in the family. Without the women in the family, everyone would be totally lost. Do you appreciate your mother? If you lived in the medieval times, you wouldn’t be able to live a day of your life without her! Medieval women did so many things.
Women provided a ton of services to their family and to their owner if they weren’t free women. Women had daily activities to do too. They had to transport water and milk. They had to help take care of animals. They also did all the cooking, cleaning, and the spun wool. Not to mention taking care of the young ones in the family.
